If you want to see less unemployment, don't keep
extending unemployment payments. My
barber here in my home town gave me an example.
He had a customer who was drawing unemployment
pay. When he thought the unemployment pay
was going to expire, he got a job as a truck
driver. When the federal government voted
to extend the unemployment pay, the guy never
showed up for work. This system is broken and
needs to be fixed. Folks shouldn't have to
choose unemployment pay over work because they
can make more money that way.
The focus needs to be on getting people back
to work and off of assistance. If a person
is unemployed solely because they are too lazy
to work, going hungry for a few days is one of
the best ways to give the person a work ethic
and instill self-sufficiency. |
